Do you need every registration question?

Registration forms tend to grow over time.

A question gets added for one event. Another gets added because someone might need the information. A few more stay because they have always been there.

Before long, attendees are answering questions no one is actually using.

One simple test

For every registration question, ask:

What are we going to do with the answer?

If the answer changes a meal, activity, communication, accessibility need, travel plan, room assignment, reporting requirement, or some other part of the attendee experience, the question probably has a purpose.

If the answer is simply being collected and stored, it may be worth asking whether the question needs to be there at all.

There is a data security reason too

Every piece of information you collect becomes something you are responsible for storing, protecting, and eventually deciding whether you still need.

Every unnecessary question adds a little more friction.

You do not need to rebuild the entire registration form. Just review each question and make sure the answer has somewhere to go.
