To Push Or Not To PUsh

Issue 10

Push notifications are useful because they interrupt people.

That is also exactly why they should be used carefully.

A room change, transportation update, or last-minute schedule change may deserve an immediate notification.

A reminder about tomorrow's breakfast, a sponsor message, or a general event update probably does not.

When everything becomes a push notification, attendees learn that most notifications are not important. And once that happens, the notification that actually matters is much easier to ignore.

One simple test  •  Before sending one, ask:
Does the attendee need to know this right now?

If the answer is no, the information may belong somewhere else in the event app, agenda, email, or other event communication.

Push notifications work best when attendees can trust that an interruption is worth their attention.

That is all. Carry on.
